In-Play Betting and Cash Out Explained: Live Odds, Suspended Markets and Selling a Bet

October 10, 2026 In-Play Betting and Cash Out Explained: Live Odds, Suspended Markets and Selling a Bet

In-play betting (also called live betting) means placing a bet while the match is already being played. The odds and lines keep moving with the score, the clock and what is happening on the pitch. Vietnamese bettors call it kèo rung — the “shaking” line — for exactly that reason. This guide explains how in-play differs from pre-match betting, how to read a live line, why markets get suspended, and how cash out works, including partial and automatic cash out.

In-play vs pre-match betting

Pre-match In-play
When you bet Before kick-off While the match is running
Odds and lines Move little, mostly on team news Move constantly with the score and time left
What you know Form, expected line-ups Also the current score, cards and how the match is going
Suspended markets Rare Frequent — after goals, penalties, red cards and dangerous attacks
Cash out Offered by some books Used much more, with a price that changes during the match

The markets are mostly the familiar ones — Asian handicap, over/under totals and 1X2 — plus markets that only exist during a match, such as next team to score, second-half totals or the number of corners still to come.

How to read an in-play line

A live line usually shows the minute and the current score next to the odds. Say it is the 60th minute and the score is 1-0:

  • Over/under 2.5: one goal is already in, so over needs at least two more in the 30 minutes left. Over is now priced much higher than before kick-off, and under much lower.
  • New total lines: books open lines around the current goal count plus a margin, such as 1.5 or 1.75 at 1-0 after an hour.
  • Handicap: the line is reset for the score and the time left, so the team in front may give far fewer goals than it did before the match.

The most important thing to read is which goals the market counts. Some in-play markets are settled on the whole match, others only on goals scored after your bet is placed. 22bet’s rules state that in-play bets count from the moment the bet is placed to the end of the match, and that the score shown on the live board is for reference only — if a score looks wrong, check another source before you bet.

Why odds move and markets get suspended

  • The clock is priced in. Late in a match, every minute without a goal makes under more likely, so its price drops minute by minute.
  • Suspensions. After a goal, a penalty, a red card or a dangerous attack the market is locked for a few seconds while the odds are recalculated.
  • Bet acceptance. 22bet’s rules say an in-play bet is accepted only once it is recorded on its server and confirmed. If the price changes in the meantime, the bet may be rejected or you may be asked to accept the new odds. Once accepted, an in-play bet cannot be changed or cancelled.

What is cash out?

Cash out lets you settle a bet before the match is over, for an amount the bookmaker offers at that moment. At 22bet it is called Bán vé cược (“sell the bet”). Under its rules:

  • The offer can be higher or lower than your stake, depending on the time left and the odds at the moment you sell.
  • It works on singles and accumulators, from the recent-bets panel or your bet history. Once sold, the ticket shows as “sold” and the money is credited straight away.
  • Cash out disappears once any match on the ticket has been settled, and the bookmaker may decline to buy back some bets.

Partial and automatic cash out

  • Partial cash out sells part of the ticket and leaves the rest running at the original odds.
  • Auto cash out (Bán Tự Động at 22bet) lets you set an amount in advance. The cash-out value is recalculated continuously and the ticket sells itself when the offer reaches your amount.
  • At 22bet, selling all or part of a ticket by hand switches its auto cash out off.

How a cash-out price is worked out

An illustrative example: you put 100 on over 2.5 goals at 1.90 before kick-off. In the 70th minute it is 2-0, and over 2.5 is now priced at 1.25. The “fair” value of your ticket is 100 × 1.90 ÷ 1.25 = 152. The offer you see will be below that, because the bookmaker’s margin is built into the cash-out price as well (see house edge and bookmaker margin).

A partial cash out works on the same numbers. If the offer for the whole ticket were 150 and you sold half, you would take 75 now and keep 50 riding at 1.90 — a further 95 if a third goal goes in.

So cash out does not make a bet better. You swap a possible larger return for a certain smaller one, and pay a slice of margin for doing it. On a betting exchange the same idea is done by hand, by laying the selection you backed; our back and lay guide works through the numbers.

Is in-play betting easier than pre-match?

No. You see the score and the run of play, but so does the bookmaker, which reprices every minute. The biggest difference is pace: markets stay open for 90 minutes, which makes it easy to bet more than you planned, or to chase a bet that has just lost. If you bet in-play, decide before kick-off the most you will stake on that match.

Where to bet in-play

22bet has a separate live section (Trong Trận on its Vietnamese site) for bets during a match, with cash out and auto cash out as described above and full sports rules in Vietnamese. 20Bet has its own sportsbook plus the SBO and Saba (IBC) lobbies inside its sports section. For in-play features and welcome offers side by side, see Vietnam betting sites.

Bet responsibly

No way of reading a live line turns sports betting into income: how a match unfolds cannot be known in advance, and the margin is built into both the odds and the cash-out price. Only bet what you can afford to lose, set a limit before each match and never bet more to win back losses. For adults 18 and over only.

In-Play Betting and Cash Out FAQ

What is in-play betting?

In-play (live) betting means betting while a match is in progress. The odds and lines change constantly with the score, the time left and what is happening on the pitch.

Why are in-play markets suspended?

After a goal, a penalty, a red card or a dangerous attack the bookmaker locks the market for a few seconds to recalculate the odds. A bet is only accepted once it has been recorded and confirmed.

What is cash out in betting?

Cash out settles a bet before the match ends for an amount the bookmaker offers at that moment. The offer can be above or below your stake, depending on the score, the time left and the current odds.

What is partial cash out?

Partial cash out sells part of a ticket for its current cash-out value and leaves the rest of the stake running at the original odds.

What is auto cash out?

You set an amount in advance, the cash-out value is recalculated during the match, and the ticket sells itself when the offer reaches your amount. At 22bet, cashing out all or part of the ticket by hand switches auto cash out off.

Can I cancel an in-play bet?

No. Once an in-play bet is accepted it cannot be changed or cancelled. The only way to close it early is to cash out, if the bookmaker offers it on that bet.
