Asian Total Goals Explained: Over/Under 2.25, 2.5 and 2.75

October 9, 2026 Asian Total Goals Explained: Over/Under 2.25, 2.5 and 2.75

Asian total goals is the over/under market with a twist: as well as the familiar lines like 2.5, it uses whole-number lines such as 2 and 3, and quarter lines such as 2.25 and 2.75, where your stake is split in two. This guide explains how each kind of line settles, what “over 2.75 goals” actually means, a full win/loss table, and how the odds turn into a return. In Vietnam the market is called tài xỉu bóng đá: tài is over, xỉu is under.

What over/under goals means

The bookmaker sets a line for the total number of goals scored by both teams. At full time you add the goals together:

  • A 2-1 finish is 3 goals. Against a 2.5 line, over wins and under loses.
  • A 1-1 finish is 2 goals. Against 2.5, under wins and over loses.

Who wins the match does not matter, only how many goals are scored. The line is set so the two sides are roughly equally likely: a game expected to be open gets a higher line (3 or 3.5), a tight one a lower line (2 or 2.25).

Not to be confused with tài xỉu dice (sic bo) in a casino — the two only share the Vietnamese name.

Three kinds of line

Asian total lines move in steps of a quarter goal, and every line falls into one of three groups:

Type Examples How it settles
Half line 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 Win or lose — never a refund
Whole line 2, 3 Stake refunded if the total lands exactly on the line
Quarter line 2.25 (2 and 2.5), 2.75 (2.5 and 3) Stake split in half across the two neighbouring lines

How quarter lines work: 2.25 and 2.75

On a quarter line your stake is split into two equal halves, each placed on one of the two neighbouring lines at the same odds. 22bet’s sports rules (section 12.6, “Asian Total”) give the worked example: 100 on Under 1.75 at odds of 1.4 becomes 50 on Under 1.5 and 50 on Under 2. With 0 or 1 goals both halves win and 140 comes back; with exactly 2 goals the Under 1.5 half loses and the Under 2 half is refunded, so 50 comes back; with 3 goals the whole bet loses.

  • Over 2.25 = half on Over 2 and half on Over 2.5. If exactly 2 goals are scored, the Over 2 half is refunded and the Over 2.5 half loses: a half loss.
  • Over 2.75 (also written 2.5/3) = half on Over 2.5 and half on Over 3. If exactly 3 goals are scored, the Over 2.5 half wins and the Over 3 half is refunded: a half win.

So “over 2.75 goals” means: four or more goals pays in full, exactly three pays half the winnings and returns the other half of the stake, two or fewer loses.

Win/loss table for the over side

Results for a bet on over, by total goals at full time. The under side is the mirror image: a win becomes a loss, a half win a half loss, and a push stays a push.

Over line 0–1 goals 2 goals 3 goals 4+ goals
1.5 Loss Win Win Win
1.75 Loss Half win Win Win
2 Loss Push Win Win
2.25 Loss Half loss Win Win
2.5 Loss Loss Win Win
2.75 Loss Loss Half win Win
3 Loss Loss Push Win
3.25 Loss Loss Half loss Win
3.5 Loss Loss Loss Win

Odds and what you get back

With decimal odds, a winning bet returns stake × odds, stake included. Take 100 on Over 2.75 at 1.95:

  • 4 or more goals: 195 back (95 profit).
  • Exactly 3 goals (half win): the 50 on Over 2.5 wins and returns 97.50; the 50 on Over 3 is refunded. Total 147.50 back (47.50 profit).
  • 2 goals or fewer: the 100 is lost.

The two sides of a totals market are usually priced close together, for example 1.95 and 1.85. Turned into probabilities (1 ÷ 1.95 ≈ 51.3% and 1 ÷ 1.85 ≈ 54.1%) they add up to about 105.4% — the extra over 100% is the bookmaker’s margin. On Asian boards the same line is often shown in Malaysian or Hong Kong odds (1.95 and 1.85 become 0.95 and 0.85); see Malaysian, Hong Kong and Indonesian odds explained for how to read them.

Over/under in other sports

Over/under, also called totals, works the same way in every sport: the bookmaker sets a line and you bet on whether the combined score of both teams finishes above or below it. What changes is what is counted:

  • Basketball: total points. In the 2025/26 NBA regular season, the two teams scored 231.2 points per game on average, so NBA lines tend to sit around that figure. Unlike football, full-game basketball totals at 22bet include overtime: a game level at 110-110 after 48 minutes that finishes 121-118 counts as 239.
  • Football corners and cards: the same over/under format, on the number of corners or bookings. Our Premier League corner stats show where those lines come from.

The line types work the same everywhere: a half line (230.5, 2.5) cannot push, a whole line (230, 2) refunds on an exact landing, and a quarter line (2.25, 2.75) splits your stake as shown above.

Things to check before you bet

  • What time counts. Full-time totals are settled on official playing time including stoppage time, but not extra time or penalty shootouts — 22bet’s rules say so explicitly. Check the market rules for anything else.
  • First-half totals are a separate market that counts only goals in the first 45 minutes plus first-half stoppage time, with lower lines (usually 0.5 to 1.5).
  • In-play totals move with the score and the time left. The line that counts is the one on your bet slip when you placed it; check the market rules for whether goals already scored are included.
  • Betting on the winner rather than the goal count? Asian handicap uses the same quarter-line split.
  • The same lines are used for corners and cards totals, and they settle the same way; league averages and over rates are on the Premier League corner stats page.

Where to bet on Asian totals

22bet offers goal totals on football including the quarter lines, and its sports rules — available in Vietnamese — set out the half-stake split shown above. 20Bet has its own sportsbook plus the SBO and Saba (IBC) lobbies inside its sports section. For welcome offers, markets and in-play features side by side, see Vietnam betting sites.

A goals market that ignores the total is both teams to score (BTTS): a 1-1 draw is a Yes even though it stays under 2.5.

Bet responsibly

No way of reading a totals line makes sports betting a source of income: the number of goals in a match cannot be known in advance, and the margin is built into every price. Only bet what you can afford to lose, set a limit before each round of fixtures and never bet more to win back what you have lost. For adults 18 and over only.

Asian Total Goals FAQ

What is Asian total goals?

An over/under bet on the total goals scored by both teams, using quarter-goal steps. As well as half lines like 2.5, it has whole lines (2, 3) that refund on an exact total and quarter lines (2.25, 2.75) that split the stake across two neighbouring lines.

What does over 2.5 goals mean?

Over 2.5 wins if the match has 3 or more goals and loses with 2 or fewer. A half line like 2.5 never ends in a refund.

What does over 2.75 goals mean?

Your stake is split between Over 2.5 and Over 3. With 4 or more goals you win in full; with exactly 3 goals you win half (the Over 2.5 half wins, the Over 3 half is refunded); with 2 or fewer you lose.

What does over 2.25 goals mean?

Your stake is split between Over 2 and Over 2.5. With 3 or more goals you win in full; with exactly 2 goals you lose half (the Over 2 half is refunded, the Over 2.5 half loses); with 0 or 1 goal you lose.

Does extra time count in over/under bets?

Usually not. Full-time totals are settled on official playing time including stoppage time, but excluding extra time and penalty shootouts, unless the market says otherwise.

What does tài xỉu mean in football?

It is the Vietnamese name for the over/under goals market: tài is over and xỉu is under. It has nothing to do with tài xỉu dice (sic bo) apart from the name.

What does over/under mean in betting?

A bet on whether the combined score of both teams finishes above (over) or below (under) the line the bookmaker sets. It is used in every sport: goals in football, points in basketball, and corners or cards as separate markets. In football, extra time does not count; in basketball, full-game totals include overtime.
