Vietlott: How to Play Mega 6/45, Power 6/55, Lotto 5/35 and Max 3D, with Prizes and Odds

Vietlott is Vietnam’s computerised lottery, run by the Vietnam Computerised Lottery company (Vietlott) under the Ministry of Finance. Unlike the traditional xổ số kiến thiết tickets, which come with the numbers already printed, Vietlott lets you choose your own numbers. This guide explains how the four main games work (Mega 6/45, Power 6/55, Lotto 5/35 and Max 3D), the prize tables Vietlott publishes, and the exact odds of every prize tier.

Which games does Vietlott run?

Vietlott has seven products: Lotto 5/35, Mega 6/45, Power 6/55, Max 3D, Max 3D Pro, Keno and Bingo18. These four are the ones most players ask about:

How to play Mega 6/45

• Pick 6 numbers from 01 to 45, or let the terminal pick them at random. One play costs 10,000 VND.
• Each draw produces 6 numbers. Order does not matter.
• Matching 3, 4, 5 or all 6 numbers wins a prize. If a ticket qualifies for more than one tier, only the highest is paid.

The jackpot rolls over until someone wins it. If several tickets win in the same draw, it is split in proportion to the amount each winner played.

System plays (“Bao”) let you pick more (or fewer) than 6 numbers and buy every 6-number combination they make. Bao 7 means picking 7 numbers, which makes 7 combinations for 70,000 VND; Bao 8 makes 28 combinations (280,000 VND); Bao 5 pairs your 5 numbers with each of the other 40, making 40 combinations (400,000 VND). A system play does not change the odds of any single combination: you are simply buying several at once. According to Vietlott, a Bao 7 ticket that contains all 6 winning numbers collects the jackpot plus six First prizes (60,000,000 VND), because six of its other combinations hold five of the winning numbers.

How to play Power 6/55

Power 6/55 works like Mega 6/45, but you pick 6 numbers from 01 to 55. After the 6 main numbers are drawn, Vietlott draws one special number from the 49 balls left in the machine. The special number is used only for Jackpot 2.

How to play Lotto 5/35

Lotto 5/35 is drawn twice a day, at 13:00 and 21:00. You pick 5 numbers from 01 to 35 and one special number from 01 to 12. Tickets are on sale from 06:00 until before 22:00, and sales for each draw close 30 minutes before it starts.

The 10,000 VND consolation prize is the price of the play: it gives your stake back.

How to play Max 3D

In Max 3D you pick one three-digit set, each digit from 0 to 9 (for example 4-0-7). Every draw produces 20 three-digit sets: 2 for the special prize, 4 for First, 6 for Second and 8 for Third. Your set has to match a drawn set in the same order.

Max 3D also has a Max 3D+ option (two three-digit sets), and Max 3D Pro is a separate game with its own prize table.

Vietlott odds for every prize

These figures are exact combinatorics: Mega 6/45 has 8,145,060 possible 6-number combinations, Power 6/55 has 28,989,675, and Lotto 5/35 has 324,632 five-number combinations times 12 special numbers, or 3,895,584.

Three things the table shows:

• Most of a 6-number ticket’s value is the jackpot. Counting only the fixed prizes, every 10,000 VND played on Mega 6/45 pays back about 1,370 VND on average (13.7%), Power 6/55 about 1,340 VND and Lotto 5/35 about 1,730 VND. The rest of the ticket’s value is in the jackpot, so it depends on how big the jackpot is in that draw and how many people share it.
• Max 3D has no jackpot and pays back about 54.6% of stakes through its fixed prizes, but its top prize is 1,000,000 VND. For comparison, a single-zero roulette wheel returns 97.3% (see house edge explained).
• A prize is not a profit. Mega 6/45’s Third prize (30,000 VND) is three times the stake, and Lotto 5/35’s consolation prize only refunds it.

Is there a Vietlott strategy?

No. Every draw is independent and every combination is equally likely, including 01-02-03-04-05-06. “Hot” and “overdue” number statistics describe past draws; they do not change the next one, which is the same fallacy covered in our look at the Martingale and other roulette systems. The one thing you can choose is to avoid combinations many other people pick, such as birthdays (only numbers up to 31). Your odds stay the same, but if you hit the jackpot you are less likely to share it.
